What makes a good leader?

A good leader is visionary, passionate, committed, with a good grasp of the realities of a given situation. They are willing to take (calculated) risks and push creative boundaries. The current chair of the UK International Coaching Federation, businessman and former chair of Sound It Out, John Blakey. demonstrates good leadership qualities. He listens, is fully engaged, knowledgeable, and is inspirational.

Is leadership different for disabled people?

On a personal level I believe it has changed my experience deeply, as my impairment is acquired and has affected my physical abilities and self belief; for those born with an impairment I believe the experience of exclusion is there from the beginning, which in my experience means a different take.

Do you think there are barriers to leadership for disabled people that non disabled people don't face?

Yes. Perception of oneself, social perception and sometimes prejudice and misunderstanding. Most of the world thinks in terms of the medical model of disability which is the biggest barrier.
