What makes a good leader?

A good leader inspires commitment from a team and also helps motivation and a good working atmosphere. My old CEO demonstrated good qualities of leadership by listening to individuals and being inspiring to listen to. His dedication to the cause of the organisation (to promote and enable equality for disabled people) always reminded people why they were doing their jobs.

Is leadership different for disabled people?

My own experiences of exclusion and involvement throughout childhood made me aware of these issues in the team I led and meant that I worked hard to ensure everyone was listened to equally. I hope that others do not find having an impairment changes their experience of leadership but unless the impairment comes after experience of leadership is already gained, it would be hard to assess how much it affects it.

Are there barriers to leadership for disabled people that non disabled people don’t experience?

The barriers are the attitudes and assumptions made by others on what capabilities or restrictions people may have.
