What makes a good leader?
Good leadership is about the release of human potential, about enabling others to break free of limits - organisational or self-imposed, empowering others to be all they can be. A good leader enables and inspires others to be their best by giving them the tools, clear parameters within which to operate and active participation in shaping their environment. For me Tony Robbins demonstrates good qualities of leadership through walking his talk, taking no bullshit and constantly inspiring me to up my game.
Is leadership different for disabled people?
Yes, it opens up insights that people who haven't experienced life from this viewpoint wouldn't have - which can only be valuable. It can give you an enormous drive and passion to create change when you have experienced exclusion. It can also mean you may lack confidence or energy to take on certain opportunities of leadership.
Do disabled people experience barriers to leadership that non disabled people don’t experience?
Main barriers are perceptions of non-disabled people - can be a challenge - sometimes feel you have to prove yourself 10 times over to be seen as an equal to non-disabled people in leadership positions
