Monitoring - a beginning not an end

If done well, monitoring can be an excellent way of kick starting action on inclusion and diversity.

It can help you set a benchmark against which the success (or not) of your actions can be measured.

The organisations involved in the last cohort of Get A Plan felt that the following were the four key elements in ensuring that monitoring was used to support the development of an organisation, and not just used as a way of getting funding from funders.

  • A clear vision – knowing what needed to be monitored and why
  • Senior management involvement
  • Access to diversity expertise
  • All staff knowledgeable, confident and responsible with their roles and responsibilities in relation to monitoring
